Dear Friend, Many of us are in the process of pivoting from the luxurious pace of summer to the rigors and demands of the school year. Even as I feel the pull of the Fall, I am reflecting on these last few months. In a “normal” summer, many of us would have witnessed the palpable energy of campers freshly back from their summers, brimming with excitement, full of confidence and strength. If you’ve ever sent a young person out on a canoe trip, hiking trip or other wilderness expedition, you’ll know what I mean. There is a pride and sense of belonging not only in the section of new friends and the camp community, but also, and almost more importantly, in the wilderness. Knowing this experience myself, I am thrilled to be back and serving as Chair of the Board of Directors for Red Canoe Foundation. I am especially grateful to our two immediate past Board Chairs, most recently Maddy Vertenen and before her, Libby Moore. Under their leadership we have become who we are today, and I’m honored to have the opportunity to continue their good work. We have a dynamic and deeply committed Board of Directors, and, as of this month, I am thrilled to announce the addition of two new board members, Chris Foster and Will Nuckols. Katherine Finnegan and Josephine Moore joined us as advisory marketing committee members as well. Suffice to say, watch out world!! We are so grateful for this community’s participation in helping to advance our mission, and we hope, in the year to come, you’ll continue to support RCF and the young people we serve. We are looking towards summer 2022 with high hopes! Enjoy these last few days of summer – get outside as often as you can!! Best, Phoebe Knowles, Board Chair Red Canoe Foundation |
